Who is ErdgasUmstellung?
ErdgasUmstellung is a brand of Rheinische NETZgesellschaft mbH (RNG), which operates electricity and natural gas grids in the Rhineland. ErdgasUmstellung handles all the technical steps and communications in the process known as the market area conversion, in the course of which around 500,000 natural gas appliances in the RNG grid area will need to be adapted to use to the new H gas. The legal responsibility for the market area conversion, also known as natural gas conversion, is held by RNG.

RNG was founded on 1 January 2006 in order to meet the stipulations of the Energy Industry Act on the unbundling of grid operations from the energy supply. RNG is the grid operator in the Rhineland region from Dormagen to Erftstadt, from Pulheim to Reichshof and in and around Cologne. Currently employing a workforce of 80, RNG operates gas grids measuring roughly 5,460 km and an electricity grid totalling around 19,230 km in length.
RNG leases and operates the electricity and gas grids of the grid owners AggerEnergie GmbH, BELKAW GmbH, evd energieversorgung dormagen GmbH, Gasversorgungsgesellschaft mbH Rhein-Erft, Energieversorgung Leverkusen GmbH & Co. KG, RheinEnergie AG, Stadtwerke Leichlingen GmbH, Stromnetz Bornheim GmbH & Co. KG and Lohmar Netzeigentumsgesellschaft mbH.
RNG provides gas and electricity grids to all market players without distinction.
